Last Thursday, the mixed tennis team from Ruhr University Bochum won its round of 16 match in the German University Championships against the combined team from Heinrich Heine University and Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences.
As the hosts of the event, the players used their home-court advantage and won decisively, 8-1.
Under ideal conditions, Jolina Maß, Christoph Bühren, Leon Honhold, and Florian Borghorst won their respective singles matches in straight sets. The mixed doubles team of Carola Schadinn and Christoph Bühren also emerged victorious. Only the final men’s doubles match went to Düsseldorf, who narrowly defeated Leon Honhold and Gagan Prakash in the decisive third set via a champion’s tiebreak.
Hopefully, the players will be able to use their home advantage again in the upcoming quarterfinals, which will be held once more on the campus of the Faculty of Sports in mid-June.
We congratulate our team on this success and thank everyone involved for their organization and support.
