A Closer Partnership for Sports
As part of the “Excellence in Motion” exhibition, the City of Bochum and Ruhr University are entering into an even closer partnership to promote sport in Bochum.
On April 8, 2026, the City of Bochum and Ruhr University Bochum signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen their partnership in the field of sports. Mayor Jörg Lukat and University Rector Prof. Dr. Martin Paul signed a memorandum of understanding to this effect in the cafeteria foyer at Ruhr University. Among other things, the goal of the cooperation is to provide training facilities for university sports and to offer the city more robust scientific consultation. Regular working meetings and joint events are planned to promote sports in Bochum in a sustainable manner.
The exhibition “Excellence in Motion” was also inaugurated during the meeting. In cooperation with Bochum Marketing GmbH and AkaFö, the university sports department is presenting numerous exhibits from both recreational and elite sports. The exhibition features stories of Olympic champions as well as university sports instructors and looks back on the 2025 FISU World University Games in the Rhine-Ruhr region.
"Excellence in Motion" can be seen from April 13 to June 15, Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Mensa foyer. Admission is free.
