Annual RUB diving trip to the Costa Brava in Spain
Also this year 42 divers went for a week to the diving excursion to L'Estartit at the beautiful Costa Brava in Spain. Every year the team of diving instructors of the Hochschulsport Bochum in cooperation with the carpool service makes it possible to experience an unforgettable week of relaxed diving.
Already since 2011, RUB divers regularly dive at the protected Medes Islands with the dive center Unisub. The area around the islands has been a strictly protected underwater nature reserve since 1990. Since fishing was banned as early as 1983, the Medes Islands are known for their diversity of fish and crustaceans. Particularly impressive are the large numbers of groupers, which can reach the size of a pig. Furthermore you can find moray eels, octopus, snails, many schooling fish, now and then eagle rays and much more. Here is the opportunity to experience the Mediterranean Sea as it was many years ago before overfishing.
After a comfortable arrival by a bus of the Ruhr-Uni Bochum, the 42 divers moved into an apartment house with its own pool on the roof and in direct location at the harbor with sea view. The next day the 5-day routine began, consisting of eating, diving and sleeping.
On the first day of diving, the weather was unfortunately not kind to the RUB divers, so only the first of two planned dives could take place, but this did not dampen the good mood. The extra time was used for further education in the well-equipped training room of the dive center and the next diving days went as planned with two wonderful dives per day. The team of the diving center made it possible to make up for the 10th dive on Friday, which was actually a dive-free day.
Much too fast the week was over again, which was sealed with a traditional farewell evening. On Saturday we went back to Bochum.
