Jubelndes Abschiedsbild der RUB-Athlet*innen, Frau Freitag und HSP-Mitarbeitenden
Am 10.07.2025 wurden unsere RUB-Athlet*innen feierlich in die World-University Games von Prorektorin Frau Freitag, Abteilungsleiterin des Hochschulsports und Delegationschefin des "Team Studi" Ines Lenze, sowie den Mitarbeitenden im Wettkampf- und Spitzensports Mirco Kreyenkamp und Carla Werner verabschiedet.

Official farewell of our RUB athletes to the FISU Games 2025

On July 10, 2025, the athletes of Ruhr-Universität Bochum were ceremoniously sent off to the World University Games. The official send-off took place at the SSC and was accompanied by our Vice-Rector for Teaching, Ms. Freitag, together with the University Sports Team (HSP)

Reception in the official adh outfit

Ten of the eleven RUB athletes were warmly welcomed at the SSC at 3 pm - dressed in their official outfit of the German University Sports Association (adh). They will be competing in tennis (Essen), rowing (Duisburg), athletics (Bochum) and swimming (Berlin). Ines Lenze, Carla Werner and Mirco Kreyenkamp also organized and accompanied the event. Ines Lenze was represented in a double function: As head of delegation of "Team Studi" and as head of department at HSP. The University Communications team was also on site and recorded the event with photos and videos.

One highlight of the event was the presentation of the impressive "Flame Relay" video. Afterwards, Simon Reineke - our swimmer and final torchbearer - described his very personal impressions of this moment.

Between sport, media presence and the exam phase

Over refreshing drinks and snacks, the athletes talked about their expectations and impressions of the FISU Games so far. A particular focus: the growing public attention. Jasper Angl was recently featured in a WDR report together with Ines Lenze, while Mark Hinrichs, Samira Attermeyer and Nino Toto have already been featured in interviews on social media and on TV.

Vice Rector Ms Freitag was particularly interested in the challenge of combining competitive sport and studying, especially during the examination phase. The athletes emphasized that this was only possible with good time management, flexible exam dates and the support of university sports.

Sharing experiences among athletes

The meeting provided space for exchange - also among the participants themselves. For example, Tom Tewes, who has already taken part in the World University Games, shared his experiences with the "newcomers" and gave valuable tips.

Home advantage and live streams as motivation

The anticipation of competing in front of a home crowd - with the support of fellow students, friends and family - is particularly great. Due to the high intensity of training, the athletes are also looking forward to the opportunity to follow other competitions conveniently via livestream on fisu.tv.

A special farewell gift

As a symbolic thank you, the athletes presented Ms. Freitag with the FISU mascot "Wanda" - signed by all team members. Her special commitment to the compatibility of studying and top-class sport is also reflected in her engagment to make top-class sports more visible.
