The final round of the German University Championship 2023 took place in Hamburg on 1 July. The RUB women's team beat the national competitors and won the DHM title.
In April, the Bochum team beat the teams from Cologne and Münster in the preliminary round and qualified for the final round of the German University Championship 2023, which took place last Saturday in Hamburg. There, the team met the teams from the University of Nuremberg-Erlangen and then the hosts from the University of Hamburg.
The games in the final round each lasted 2x20 minutes. In the first game, the team scored a commanding victory (21:11) against the Bavarian team, which had already lost to the Hamburg team in advance. It was clear that the last game of the evening would be the final between Bochum and Hamburg. After both teams started nervously into the match, a game of equals developed after the first few minutes, in which the Ruhr-Universität was able to take a two-goal lead (7:5) at half-time. In a very competitive second half, in which the hosts fought their way back to 10:10, the women from Bochum managed to win 13:12 in a nerve-racking final phase and thus secure the German University Championship.
This success also qualified the team for participation in the European University Games (EUSA Games) next year. The EUSA Games 2024 will be held in the Hungarian cities of Debrecen and Miskolc.
