Competition sports
The German University Track and Field Championships will once again be held at the Duisburg Track and Field Stadium on May 14, 2026. For the third consecutive year, Duisburg will host this national highlight for universities—this year under the leadership of Ruhr University Bochum as the organizing institution. Together with Eintracht Duisburg e.V. and the North Rhine-Westphalia Athletics Association, RUB is organizing the event for approximately 60 universities and more than 300 individual competitors.
With a total of 13 registered athletes, Ruhr University Bochum has a strong athletic contingent. The RUB has particularly good reason to hope for a medal in the 800-meter race, thanks to Paul Gröver (1:51.94 min). In the pole vault, Hendrik Hohmann is also among the favorites for the title with his registered mark of 5.30 meters.
The RUB is also well-positioned in other disciplines: Marcel Reisch will compete in the discus throw with a strong 54.46 meters and, starting this year, has also taken on the role of chairman, through which he supports university sports, particularly in communicating with participants. In the sprint and long jump, Julius Wegermann will compete in the 100-meter dash (11.19 sec) and the long jump (6.96 m).
On the women’s side, Malin Bornemann in the 400-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles, Linda Beerhorst in the 400-meter dash, and Lea Kruse in the 1,500-meter dash will represent RUB. Additionally, Sarah Zander will compete in the discus and javelin throws, while Felicitas Görtz will compete in the triple jump.
Special attention is also being paid to Berenike Roos, who, as the newly crowned U20 indoor triple jump champion and a member of the Junior Squad 1, will be competing in the sprint events in Duisburg. Rounding out the RUB team are Abinayan Uruthiran in the 200-meter dash, Luis Rist and Lea Laux in the pole vault.
All interested persons are invited to support the athletes on site and experience exciting competitions. The first events begin at 11 a.m., and admission is free. Food and drinks will also be available on site.
