RUB Students Compete in International University Championships
This summer, numerous students from Ruhr University Bochum are once again representing the university on the international stage, competing against the best student athletes in the world and Europe.
The World University Championships (WUC) in handball in France kicked off the season. Among the participants was RUB student Paula Trawczynski, who finished in 8th place with the German university team. The competitions were particularly demanding for the athletes: due to the summer temperatures, conditions in the sports halls reached up to 50 degrees.
Gregor Eigenbrodt celebrated a major success at the World University Championships in Combat Sports in Brazil. In wrestling, he secured the bronze medal and thus an outstanding 3rd place.
The World University Rowing Championships in Canada are already scheduled for next week. Sven Achterfeld, Paul Martin, Tom Tewes, and Kaspar Virnekäs will be competing for Ruhr University Bochum. German university rowers are traditionally among the strongest in the world, so exciting competitions and strong finishes are expected.
RUB students also achieved success at the European level. At the European University Games, Celine Demirönal and Ilka Pallares Hönmann (photo) earned a strong 6th-place finish in padel.
Another international highlight is coming up in September: At the European Universities Championships (EUC) Combat Sports in Tirana, Emily Gränitz will represent Ruhr University Bochum in judo and compete for a top finish.
The university sports Bochum warmly congratulates all athletes on their achievements so far and wishes the students who are yet to compete much success and exciting matches.
