The Bochum team was supposed to have played the semi-final against the team from the University of Hanover, but the team from the capital of Lower Saxony had to cancel their participation at short notice and so the RUB team was able to enter the final without a fight.
In the second semi-final, the hosts from Cologne beat the University of Freiburg 6:3 and were thus the final opponents of the Bochum team. After the first round of singles, the score was 1:2 for Cologne. After that, there were close matches, each of which was unfortunately won by the Cologne players in a matchtiebreak. In the end, the score was 1:5 after the singles, which meant that the Cologne team was the DHM 2023 winner.
The RUB tennis team can now call itself the German Vice University Champion 2023. This qualifies the team for the European University Games (EUSA Games) 2024 in Debrecen and Miskolc (Hungary).
