Competitive sport
University management and university sports met the students at Beckmannshof.
Over 50 student athletes from Ruhr-Universität were honored for their achievements on December 13, 2023 on behalf of the Rectorate. This was the ninth time that University Sports had hosted this central award ceremony at Beckmannshof. Ines Lenze, Head of University Sports, and Daniel Krüger, responsible for competitive and elite sport at University Sports, hosted the event. Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Kornelia Freitag presented the awards.
On the one hand, it was about international competitions. Henry Hopmann and Tom Tewes rowed to a silver medal in the eight at the World University Games and the table tennis team achieved a respectable 15th place at the European Universities Championships. There was also a lot going on nationally. Around 230 Ruhr-Universität students took part in 20 different German University Championships (DHM) - their medal haul:
