Sports award ceremony 2022
A successful year comes to an end - University Sports has honoured the best RUB athletes in 2022.
Around 60 student athletes were honoured for their achievements on behalf of the Rectorate on 8 December 2022, 40 of whom came to the joint celebration in the Beckmannshof. This was the sixth time that the university sports department had organised the central honouring of the athletes.
In 2022, the students won a total of four titles at the German University Championships, three runner-up titles, four bronze medals and numerous international successes in teams or individual sports. In particular, a bronze medal (Leonard Bals and Nico Pickert) and two world championship titles (Nico Paufler) at the World Student Championships in canoeing, as well as a silver medal by Linn Kleine in the team competition at the World Student Championships in cross-country running, stand out here. Laura Nolte's Olympic victory in the two-woman bobsleigh at the Olympic Games in Beijing was also honoured once again. Unfortunately, the gold medallist could not be present in person because she is currently competing in a World Cup in Lake Placid (USA), but she was present on the screen with a short video message.
Prof. Dr. Michael Kellmann (Dean of the Faculty of Sport Science) and Dr. Martina Hoffmann (Head of Student Services & International Office) carried out the ceremony on behalf of Prof. Dr. Martin Paul, who was unable to attend at short notice. Ines Lenze, Head of University Sports, and Daniel Krüger, responsible for the area of "Competitive and top-class sports" at University Sports, moderated the event.
