At the beginning of the year we had a long lockdown until May. We made the best of the situation and provided you with a diverse online offer in the course programme and Unifit.

On 15 May 2021, the International University Sports Federation (FISU) awarded the 2025 FISU World University Games to the Rhine and Ruhr region. Shortly afterwards, the FISU Attribution Plaque, similar to the fire at the Olympic Games, made a stop in Bochum.

A total of 9 RUB students took part in the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The German eight won the silver medal with 4 RUB students on board.

Ruby the giraffe has been the new mascot of University Sports Bochum since summer. Whether as a good luck charm for RUB athletes at competitions or as a mood maker and photo motif at events, Ruby will always be there from now on.

On 21 July, the University Sports Centre opened its brand new calisthenics facility. Since then, it can be used for courses and individual training.

In September, an official adh competition event finally took place again with the adh Trophy sailing, where the two students from Bochum, Tim and Lars Schilling, were able to take first place in the scoring class with spinaker.

In October, we were able to offer a very diverse, but still reduced winter semester programme, which, however, had to be more heavily regulated again due to corona protection regulations.

In November, as part of this year's Annual Academic Ceremony of the Ruhr University Bochum, University Sports Bochum honoured nine students who took part in the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
