This year, the RUB is awarding a total of 256 Deutschlandstipendium scholarships to RUB students, including 24 top-class athletes.
Deutschlandstipendium scholarships for top-class sportsmen and women are awarded each year at the beginning of the winter semester and are aimed at dedicated students who are successful in top-class sport. They receive 300 euros a month as part of the scholarship. 150 euros are paid by private donors, with the Federal Government contributing the rest. The Deutschlandstipendium is intended to make it easier for top-class sportsmen and women to combine their studies with competitive sport.
Normally, both the scholarship holders and the donors get to know each other at a joint scholarship celebration. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic in 2020, the ceremony cannot take place as planned - instead, the certificates are now sent by post. "We hope to be able to make up for the celebration in spring 2021 to thank all sponsors personally and congratulate our scholarship holders," says Oliver Basu Mallick, Head of the Fundraising Office.
For the first time, six Deutschlandstipendium scholarships were awarded to top athletes at initiave of University Sports Bochum in 2017. In recent years, university sports has successively expanded the project and acquired additional sponsors, so that this year, 24 top-class athletes can look forward to receiving a coveted Deutschlandstipendium for the duration of one year.
Altogether, University Sports Bochum supervises around 50 top athletes within the framework of the "Partner University of Top-class Sports" project and supports them individually in reconciling their studies and competitive sports.
