Competitive sports
The German University Championships Track and Field took place in Duisburg on May 9. Student athletes from all over Germany competed against each other in numerous disciplines.
This year's DHM Track and Field was organized by the universities Niederrhein and Rhein-Waal. A total of 14 athletes from Ruhr-Universität Bochum took part.
In the men's sprint, 3 RUB athletes made it to the finals. Jonas Wolf, Nils Hartleif and Maximilian Superniok showed good times and were among the fastest students in the country in the 100m. Superniok even ventured into the double distance and also competed successfully over 200 meters.
The female students from Bochum also performed well in Duisburg. Madleen Malecki secured victory in the B final over 100 meters, while Lea Kruse crossed the finish line in a thrilling race over 800 meters with a time of 2:15 minutes. The participation of a RUB women's relay team in the 4x100m was particularly pleasing. In the long jump, Felicitas Görz finished in a respectable sixth place with a distance of 11.38m and Emily Klein and Kim Brünger performed well in the javelin throw.
Marcel Reisch and Dennis Hannig drew attention to themselves in the men's discus throw, taking second and fourth place respectively. Joyce Oguama was even more successful in the women's discus throw. With an outstanding distance of 59.05m, she secured the gold medal for RUB, almost 9 meters ahead of the runner-up.
Another highlight for RUB was the women's pole vault. Three athletes competed for the RUB. Lea Laux (1st) and Anne Berger (2nd) secured a double victory for Bochum, while the third Bochum starter Paula Schulte im Walde took 5th place.
