A review in pictures - the Flame Relay at RUB

It is a unique event that this year's FISU Games are taking place here in the Ruhr region. To mark the occasion, the torch of the Games was ceremoniously brought to the RUB campus on May 8, 2025 and carried across the campus in the form of a running relay with prominent runners. The torch was received by Rector Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Martin Paul in the Rote Bete. The event was rounded off with exciting interviews, speeches and a get-together.

It has now been a week since the FISU Games torch reached the campus with the U35 on 08.05.25. We would like to thank everyone who helped, cheered and watched. A big thank you also goes out to our runners, without whom the event would not have been possible. You made it possible for us to get in the mood for the exciting FISU Games full of joy and energy.

Throughout the day, the torch was carried through various schools in NRW, past the Mining Museum and the Jahrhunderthalle through the city of Bochum. The last stop of the torch was the RUB campus. Accompanied by music, a great team, flags and good humor, the torch was carried to the Rote Bete with the help of our runners such as Jan Fitschen, Sonja Greinacher, Lisa Clemens and Elmar Weile.

At Rote Bete, the event was rounded off with interviews on the preparation for the FISU Games and a laudatory speech by the principal Martin Paul. The event was moderated by the head of university sports Ines Lenze and the Vfl Bochum stadium spokesman Michael Wurst.
