World University Games
The Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games - formerly known as the Universiade - are the largest top-level student sporting event and the world's largest multi-sport event after the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The games are coming to the Rhine-Ruhr region and Berlin from July 16 to 27. Around 8,500 athletes and officials from over 170 countries are expected to take part in a total of 18 sports.
In Bochum, the Lohrheide Stadium in the district Wattenscheid will host the athletics competitions, while the Jahrhunderthalle will host a major international science congress and the 3x3 basketball competitions. The international "Ruhr Games 2025" will also take place on the site as a further sporting and cultural highlight. Germany has only hosted the event once before: in Duisburg in the summer of 1989.
Nine RUB athletes have been nominated for the FISU Games.
